50th Annual Distinguished Citizen Award
Celebrate the 50th Annual Distinguished Citizen Honoree
Gary Robinson
Starting from humble beginnings, accentuated with incredible drive, persistence, and tenacity, Gary founded and grew Magnum to be one of the largest and most respected commercial contracting service providers in the Bay area.
Gary is an aviation enthusiast and pilot whose passion for flight took root at the age of 20 thanks to his Scouting experience with learning new skills. Through aviation, Gary used his pilot’s license to further both his career and education, flying to and from Pepperdine University to earn an Executive MBA so that he could better manage and grow his business
Throughout his journey, Gary will oftentimes recount how his time in Scouting helped to lay the framework for who he is today. The values of Scouting and those 12 points defined in the Scout Law provided a pathway to becoming the successful person and businessman he is today. Those points, the same as 50 years ago, still resonate today.
Past Honorees
For the past 49 years, we’ve recognized a Distinguished Citizen in our community for their contributions to our civic landscape. These leaders have made their impact with a combination of vision, leadership, tenacity, and great character.

A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent.
Today, the Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council serves nearly 9,000 young people through the support of over 4,500 adult volunteers in greater Santa Clara, Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito Counties. As we come together to recognize Gary, we also come forward to share a future vision for Scouting in which any person, no matter their circumstance in life – color, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic background, or disability can participate equally.
