SKILLICORN BBQ SUPPORT SCOUTING
Over 60 years ago, a group of men began meeting annually at Crosetti Ranch in the Pajaro Valley to raise money for local Boy Scout troops. Outgrowing it’s meeting place, the event moved to the Skillicorn Ranch which give the annual gathering it’s name. Now a family gathering, the annual BBQ Event is held at the Corralitos Padres Hall in Corralitos yearly.
The Skillicorn BBQ is a major fundraiser to support the Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council of the Boy Scouts of America’s programs. This includes Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing, and Exploring in the Aptos, Watsonville and greater Pajaro Valley area of the Loma Prieta District.
Through the groups support directly benefited our local Scouts participating in Scouting Programs and contributed to Campership Awards for deserving youth in our community to attend Scout Summer Camp and Cub Scout Day Camp. Through the years this group has raised over $545,000 since it’s inception!
Today the Skillicorn BBQ is an opportunity to gather and enjoy fun, food, and fellowship with our local friends and community members and to honor new Eagle Scouts in the District as well as the recipient of the “Friend of Scouting” Award.

SKILLICORN BBQ SCHOLARSHIP
The Skillicorn BBQ committee is pleased to announce two scholarships annually available to High School seniors. Eligible candidates will be selected from Scout troops within the Loma Prieta District of the Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council.
This scholarship award is made available through the fundraising efforts of the Skillicorn BBQ. The committee wants to acknowledge the hard work and effort of Scouts within our region.
Criteria for eligibility:
- Scouts that are currently active at the rank of Star, Life or Eagle.
- Enrolled in a Troop in Loma Prieta.
- Scouts will need to show proof of acceptance to attend college or trade school following their graduation. They will need to show that they are enrolled in an upper division coursework such as a University, College or trade school in the Fall of 2023.
FRIENDS OF SCOUTING RECOGNITION
Each year the Skillicorn BBQ Committee recognizes and honors individual(s) or an organization of the community as a “Friend of Scouting.”
In 2021, the Committee recognized Stan and Judy Doering-Nielsen with this honor. Stan and Judy have been supporters of the Skillicorn BBQ for over 20 years and members of the BBQ Committee for 12 years. Stan and Judy, individually and together, have actively been engaged in the community and they have a legacy of lifetime involvement in making the Pajaro Valley a better place to live, work, and play.
