What is Giving Tuesday?

A global day dedicated to giving back. Every Tuesday after Thanksgiving, people all over the world will come together to celebrate generosity and give to an organization of their choice. The Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council’s Scouts, Scouters, Families, and Friends will be able to celebrate by giving to support local Scouting in our four counties.

Why should I give on (or near) #GivingTuesday?
Giving Tuesday is a great way to really show that you care about impacting youth in your community by supporting local Scouting programs. Scouting not only helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills, and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives, they also get to try new things, teaches them how to provide service to others and build self-confidence.

Other reasons on why you should give on Giving Tuesday are that giving provides satisfaction, it is tax-deductible, a little bit goes a long way, and you can make a difference in a child’s life!

How do I give?

How can I help support beyond my gift?
Help us by spreading the word about #GivingTuesday! Let your friends, family, and networks know that you’ve made a gift and encourage them to give, too. Post on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram with the hashtag #GivingTuesday and #SVMBC. However you choose to get the message out, adding your voice will make a difference in the success of SVMBC, BSA’s #GivingTuesday. Follow @SVMBC on Facebook, and svmbc_scouts on Instagram for updates!

Can I use my employer’s matching gift funds?
Yes. We are happy to work with you to secure a matching gift from your company. Visit https://www.svmbc.org/support-scouting/matching-gifts/ to learn how.

Help fund the Council in providing volunteer and staff training, insurance coverages, camp upkeep, equipment maintenance, recognitions for leaders, administrative needs, scholarships, and so much more!

An endowment is a fund is held in perpetuity to provide interest and dividend earnings for the benefit of a charitable cause. That is the textbook definition, but in reality, an endowment is the life preserver of a charitable organization.

A dedicated accounts for the Council’s fixed assets, related liabilities, and funds designated for purchasing fixed assets

Employee matching gift programs are corporate giving programs in which the company matches donations made by employees to eligible nonprofit organizations.
