Membership and Unit Renewal Resources
Membership Renewal and Unit Renewal are brand new for 2024. Unlike the previous annual “recharting” process, these two new processes are completely separate and serve different purposes. Membership renewal is now handled on a twelve-month cycle and no longer directly linked to a unit charter. Please review the information below carefully.
The District Executives are hosting Renewal “Office Hours”. There will be at least one District Executive in the Council Office every weekday that the office is open from 9am to 5pm until December 31st to offer assistance and answer any questions you might have. There are also additional hours where District Executives are available to help. The full schedule is available here. Check back periodically as the schedule is subject to change.
Membership Renewal
All Membership Terms are now from the month of registration to 12 months later. Scouting America no longer uses a pro-rated membership year.
All new youth and adult membership (or restarted after a lapse in membership) will start the month in which they register. For example, joining 8/3/2024 will mean your active membership year is 8/1/2024 to 7/31/2025. All members that renewed 12/31/2023 will have an annual 12/31 expiration date in the future.
Unit Renewal
In addition to completing the online Unit Renewal, each unit must complete and submit an Annual Unit Charter Agreement. The Annual Unit Charter Agreements have already been sent out over email to Committee Chairs and Charter Organization Representatives via AdobeSign. If you need assistance with or have questions about the Annual Unit Charter Agreements, please contact your District Executive.
After completing the online Unit Renewal and Annual Unit Charter Agreement, review the appropriate Journey To Excellence and Commissioner Challenge forms for your unit with your Unit Commissioner. Once signed and complete, please submit to your District Executive.

Membership and Unit Renewal FAQ
A: Are you connected to your Scout in Scoutbook? If not, please connect with them and wait 24 hours. Your Scout should then appear on My.Scouting for renewal. Or, please have the parent already connected to your Scout renew them.
Here is how to connect with your scout in Scoutbook:
- Log in to Scoutbook at scoutbook.scouting.org
- Go to 'My Dashboard'
- Click 'Administration'
- Click 'My Account'
- Click 'My Connections'
- Click the 'Connect to your Scout' link
- Search for your Scout using their Scouting Member ID, last name, zip code, and date of birth
- Once your Scout is found, you will be connected with full control
A: In situations where someone has chosen to "opt out", rather it be by mistake or purposely, only the Council Registrar can make the change to "opt them back in".
That is the only way for this to be corrected in the system. They will have to wait 24 hours after the Registrar fixes it to be able to try again.
You absolutely can! Please keep the following in mind:
An email will be sent to the address used during the renewal process with a link to verify the bank account and payment. You MUST KEEP this email as you will need to return to it. In the following 1-2 days, two small amounts (each less than a dollar) will be deposited into your unit's account. When this happens, you must go back to the verification email, click the link, follow the instructions, and verify the deposited amounts. Once this is complete, the renewal payment should go through without further action, and the test deposits will be removed.
A: If you renewed your membership online but are still receiving renewal notices, it's likely due to a delay in the system updating your information, or a potential issue with the renewal process itself. Please check your My.Scouting account to confirm your renewal status, and then contact your unit leader or the council office if the issue persists. Both can access your membership details and address any discrepancies with your renewal.
