Merit Badge Counselor Training

Interested in supporting your Troop or local Scouts while sharing a topic you have a passion in? Become a Merit Badge Counselor today by attending our in-person training from 7:30 – 9 PM.

To qualify as a Merit Badge Counselor, you must:

• Be at least 18 years old
• Be proficient in the merit badge subject by vocation or avocation
• Be able to work with Scout age youth
• Be registered with Scouting America (as a Merit badge Counselor)

The requirements for adults interested in supporting Scouting ]as a Merit Badge Counselor (MBC) are as follows:

• Attend a MBC training course at one of the offered sessions from the Council, at University of Scouting, or BSA’s online training.
• Bring to MBC training event or provide to Council:
  1. A  Completed Adult Application (use Position code 42)
  2. Copy of a Current YPT certificate. Complete Youth Protection Training (YPT) here.
  3. Completed Merit Badge Counselor Information worksheet indicating which Merit Badges you’re interested in.
  4. Merit Badge Counselor training date written on all documents.
  5. Complete California Assembly Bill 506 – Youth Protection Training and Life Scan
