October 30 Popcorn Notes

  1. Take Order Pick up-

Next week, Thursday, November 7 is the day to come pick up your Take Order Product.  The San Jose Warehouse (1401 Parkmoor Ave) will be open 5:00 pm- 8:00 pm.  The Castroville Warehouse (11345 Commercial Parkway) will be open 5:00pm – 7:00 pm

  1. Place Your Unit’s Prize OrderA short video that will help walk you, the Unit Kernel, thru the process of placing their Prize Order. REMINDER – Unit’s balance MUST be paid in full with the Council PRIOR to a Unit entering a Prize Order in the system. This is a change from years past. So if your unit only did Show and Sell, you may submit your Trails End Rewards for your Scouts once you have paid your amount in full. If your unit has a Take Order, that invoice must be paid in full before you can submit your Scouts prize order.  Here is a link to a video that explains it well. https://youtu.be/ry6-x6TxhmA

  1. Top Sellers – This year, instead of a form to fill out and send in we have an online form that is just easier and faster to submit. Please fill this out by November 8 so we can invite your qualifying Scouts to the $1,500 club movie (Star Wars) and the Big Spin for the top 100.

  1. Scholarship Forms Please fill out and send to the council office the Scholarship forms for any Scouts that sold over $2,500 for the first time this year or qualified in previous years.  That form may be found here.  https://www.trails-end.com/scholarship

October 8, 2019 Popcorn News

This is a big week in popcorn.  All the unit Kernels out there are reminded of the following milestones in the immediate future:

  1. Thursday, October 10 – Warehouses are open for more pickup and for returns. There is limited supply, so come early.  Hours are 5-8 in San Jose and 5-7 in Castroville.  Units may return up to 30% of the total dollar value they have checked out, and not return any chocolate.
  2. Saturday, October 12- I do the math to see which units qualified for the extra 4% for getting their families to use the app. Ahhh, I love spreadsheets and math.  Units who qualify will have their account automatically updated by end of day Tuesday, as we have a lot of data entry to do.
  3. Monday, October 14- THE Final day for units to pick up more popcorn or return their excess. Hours are 5-8 in San Jose and 5-7 in Castroville. Units may return up to 30% of the total dollar value they have checked out, and not return any chocolate.
  4. Friday, October 18- Place your order for the Take Order sale in the Trails End System by midnight. Log into your leader portal at trails-end.com and click Place Order at the top of the page.

September 23, 2019  Popcorn Updates

2019 Popcorn App Commission Update

The 4% Commission for getting all Scouts and Families to download and use the app is been modified.

In its original language “All Scouts /Families download and use the popcorn app.  Unit uses it to track and manage sale“  4 percent commission bonus was assigned for 100%.

Upon app release, implementation, and fairness this 4 percent commission bonus has been revised to read:  On October 11, if your unit has an 85% rate of Scouts/Families downloading and connecting to their unit’s account, as compared to your June 30 membership, your unit will be awarded an additional 4% commission.

This change allows for the fact that some units may have Scouts who have aged out, moved, or otherwise become inactive.  It also allows for families with multiple Scouts in the same unit to not have to bear undue burden.

Popcorn Distribution Updates

  1. Container and Bag Distribution- Beginning Thursday, October 3 units may start checking out popcorn by the container or bag- no longer whole cases.
  2. Product shortages- due to strong popcorn sales throughout the region Trails End is experiencing shortages of some products at their distribution centers. This means we are having trouble getting product to our warehouse.  For the immediate future we will have trouble getting Kettle Corn, Jalapeno, Classic Caramel, and Popping Corn.  We will let you know when there is more available.
  3. Considering the shortage of some popcorn products, units are encouraged to return their excess or trade with other units who need it. Starting Thursday, Sept 26 you can start returning un-opened cases of popcorn, as long as it’s not chocolate.

Scouts can participate in a variety of ways

Online Sales this is the best way to sell to your friends and family who live out of town.  You can send emails to your customers asking them to purchase Trail’s End popcorn online.  Friends and family can order year-round!

Show & Sell your den, pack or troop gets permission to sell in front of a retail store or in the local mall.  You set up a display with products for people to purchase as they walk by.

Take Order the most traditional way to sell popcorn; going door-to-door with the take order form, which you receive from your leader or council.

Show & Deliver you carry Trail’s End popcorn with you to show to your customers as you visit them.  The customer is able to select the products he or she wishes to buy from your product selection.

Corporate This is for savvy Scouts!  Selling to businesses is a great market to have big sells.  Whether the owner buys popcorn as gifts for their employees, or they allow the popcorn to be sold at the lobby or break room.

If you need more details then just the three steps above, here is a PowerPoint that will help you see how easy it is to get $100 extra per Scout for just sending out 10 emails.  It can really add up if 100% of your Scouts participate!
