Camp Hi-Sierra Summer Camp 2020 status

With the current COVID-19 pandemic still underway, there have been some questions regarding Camp Hi-Sierra summer camp this year. To alleviate some concerns,  we have developed a decision timeline and some modifications to our pre-camp preparations.

This summer may not look like all the summers that have come before or any of the summers that will come after. What we do know is that camp plays a vital role in the lives of our Scouts and Scouters. At this time, we are taking steps to determine how we can best serve our Scouting community this summer.

Rest assured that council will only conduct summer camp if it is legal, safe, and practical to do so.

Below are major dates for decisions and payments moving forward:

  • Decision on International Rendezvous (8/2-8/8) GO-NOGO:  beginning of May
  • Decision on first 3 weeks of camp (6/21-6/27, 6/28-7/4, 7/5-7/11) GO-NOGO:  mid-May
  • Decision on last 3 weeks of camp (7/12-7/18, 7/19-7/25, 7/26-8/1) GO-NOGO:  mid-June

To take the financial pressure off units, final payments will now be duupon arrival at camp (but are requested slightly earlier).  50% of payment is/was still due on March 1st (notices were sent to units).

  • Merit badge signups will now be held on June 8 for weeks 1-3 and June 29 for weeks 4-6.
  • Leaders meetings will be held on May 28 and June 15 via GoToMeeting (see invitation links below).
  • We have also set up a test account for you all to familiarize yourself with Tentaroo:

Refunds:  if we must cancel camp because we are unable to hold camp, we will be offering the following choice to all units:

  • 100% refund

  • Roll over your balance to summer camp in 2021 and keep the same price per scout as summer 2020. (approx. $40/Scout savings)

If we hold camp as scheduled, the modified 2020 refund policy below applies:

All deposits and payments are applied to the final camp fee, not to individuals. All refunds will be issued after September 1.  Written notice (not email) of cancellations must be made and refunds are subject to a cancellation fee. Cancellations are considered as a whole reservation rather than one individual in a reservation.

  • Cancellations prior to January 1 will forfeit only the $400 per campsite deposit.
  • Cancellations prior to March 1 will be subject to a $400 per campsite and $100 per youth fee.
  • Cancellations after March 1 will be subject to a $400 per campsite and $250 per youth fee.
  • We are now waiving higher cancellation fees previously applied after May 1.
  • Full payments are due upon arrival at camp, but are requested at time of Merit Badge session sign-ups (June 8 for weeks 1-3 and June 29 for weeks 4-6).

Refunds should only be requested for serious illness or injury (a doctor’s certification may be requested), or death in immediate family.  Other emergencies may be considered; however, refunds are not given for no-shows, conflict of schedule (such as a sports event), weather conditions, or behavior issues.
