Sons of the American Revolution Eagle Scout Recognition and Scholarship Program

The Sons of the American Revolution, composed of members who are descendants of patriots that served during the Revolutionary War, are committed to the values of individual human liberty and dignity that inspired our founding fathers. Young men achieving the rank of Eagle Scout have demonstrated their belief in these common principles.  For this reason, the S.A.R. believes that Eagle Scouts are deserving of special recognition for their accomplishment and dedication.

The contest is open to all Eagle Scouts who are currently registered in an active unit and have not reached their nineteenth birthday during the year of application.  Each Eagle Scout must complete an application form, a four-generation ancestor chart, and a 500-word patriotic themed essay, and enter the contest with their local chapter.

Applications to the Silicon Valley Chapter are due November 15th.  The SVSAR winner will be invited to attend a meeting to read his essay, and be presented the SAR Scout Medal and a $250 cash scholarship.  The Chapter winner’s application will then advance to the State level.  All applicants will receive the SAR Eagle Scout Competition Patch.

The California Society winner, selected from the chapter winners, will be invited to the annual meeting (expenses paid) and be awarded the SAR Eagle Scout Trophy along with a $1,000 cash scholarship.  The State winner’s application will then advance to the National Society level.

The National Society will then select three winners.  The top winner will be invited to the National Sons of the American Revolution Congress (expenses paid) to receive a $10,000 scholarship.  The First Runner Up will receive a $6000 scholarship, and the second runner up a $4000 scholarship.
