Popcorn Selling Tips and Safety Reminders

Selling Tips

•     ALWAYS wear your uniform

•     ALWAYS smile and introduce yourself

•     ALWAYS tell your customers why you are selling popcorn (see sample script below)

•     KNOW the different kinds of popcorn you are selling

•     ALWAYS say “Thank You”

•     ALWAYS make a copy of your order form

•     ALWAYS have a clean order form with a pen

•     BE SURE to get customer email addresses to send them a “Thank You” email after the sale; reminding them they can re-order online.

Safety Tips

•     NEVER enter anyone’s home

•     AVOID selling after dark

•     DON’T carry large amounts of cash with you

•     ALWAYS walk on the sidewalk and driveway

•     ALWAYS use the buddy system and sell with another scout and with an adult in the vicinity

Sample Script

•    Want to close sales? Take the following approach when speaking to a potential customer…

–    Hi, my name is _________ and I’m a C/B scout w/ P/T # ____.

–    I’m selling popcorn so my P/T can  _____.

(go to camp / pay for our scouting program / earn a scholarship)

–     I have a goal of $ _____.

–     You can help me reach my goal by trying some of my popcorn!

–     Will you help me?

–      More effective than asking, “Want to buy some popcorn?”  don’t you think?

Selling Popcorn

Popcorn!  Every year, Scouts hit the streets selling popcorn in front of grocery stores, in their neighborhood and to friends and family.  Scouts set popcorn goals to support their chosen activities for the year, to fund community service and leadership projects, to attend summer camp, or to travel to destinations near and far.
