Camp Pico Blanco

The Big Sur… Famous for being one of the premier vacation destinations in the world.

At the northern edge of this forest, along the Little Sur River, is Camp Pico Blanco.  The camp is named for the 3710′ white granite peak that looms over this part of the Ventana Wilderness and Los Padres National Forest.

As you head inland from Highway 1, just a few miles south of Carmel, you travel along the Palo Colorado Road.  This twisting and turning, nearly one-way road, begins your adventure.  You can imagine going back in time.  The fog and cool climate of Carmel and the Monterey Penninsula often still hugs as you climb towards Bottcher’s Gap.

Passing that 2050′ summit, the mist disappears and the valley that shrouds Camp Pico Blanco looms before you.  Follow the dirt road and you drop to 800′ and find yourself in a whole new world.
